Jesus College

Jesus college

Oxford UK

Jesus College was founded in 1571 and the cartouche in the dining hall is Grade 1 listed.

The brief was to re-gild the cartouche on the wall. Paint analysis was made first, then the plaster was stripped of paint and the delicate plaster was repaired by Cliveden Conservation. The flowers and scrolls were re-gilded as per paint analysis and the shield, the college coat of arms, was re-written in silver and lined.

"we would recommend Cliveden Conservation and draw special attention to the work done by Andrew Wetherall, Janet Carey and Laura York who showed great attention to detail in order to restore the plasterwork to its former glory"
